Trevor Farrell, Australia
Trevor was diagnosed in 1981 whilst working as an architect in Kenya, East Africa. Unsure of the course that the disease would take, Trevor decided to return to Brisbane, Australia where he continued to work as an architect. He made contact with the local MS Society and was invited to join the Board, becoming Vice President and then invited to take the role of CEO in 1984.
One year later the first mutual support (self help) group, PwMSQ, was formed and in 1986 Trevor was nominated to be MS Australia’s representative to the PwMSIC. He was appointed to the role of Chairman of the Committee following the resignation of the founding chair Dr Sandy Burnfield in 1990.
Since his diagnosis, multiple sclerosis has not significantly intruded into Trevor's life. He continues his role as CEO of the local MS society, which has grown into a securely endowed organization. During that journey he has enjoyed seeing his two daughters grow up and become independent and a family growing older and closer.
