  Introduction

Sign the petition below to join the global campaign for the ratification of the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the Convention) and the Optional Protocol by your government and the governments of other countries.

This section has been developed to provide an online mutual support and Information forum. Registered users are given a greater level of interaction with other users, so that a true World of MS community may be created.

There are several ways you and your family, friends and colleagues can help us, our member societies and the international research community to achieve our mission and realise our vision of a world without MS.

The most common way to get involved in the global MS movement is to volunteer. People from all backgrounds with a variety of experiences, skills and abilities are welcomed by national MS societies. The types of activities that need the assistance of volunteers include campaigning, organising events and providing emotional and practical support to people with MS.

To find out what opportunities exist for volunteering in your country or area contact your national MS society. Find the contact details by clicking the map or choosing from the alphabetical drop-down list of countries.

Support groups

One of the ways in which people with MS can find support and relief is when they meet with other people in the same situation as themselves. A mutual support group provides an opportunity for such meetings to occur.

You can contact your national MS society website, which will tell you if there is such a group in your area. If there isn’t a group, you could start one using the ideas in the MSIF booklet ‘How to develop a mutual support group’ as a starting point.

Clinical trials

If you have MS you may want to support MS research by participating in a clinical trial - a scientific test to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new agents and drugs being developed to combat multiple sclerosis. Before you volunteer for any type of clinical trial, MSIF recommends that as well as consulting your doctor, you read our Introduction to Clinical Trials and Key Terms, to give you an understanding of the issues involved and the terminology used.

Your national MS society may also be able to tell you about clinical trials going on in your area.
