Inhibition of transcription factor NF-kappaB in the central nervous system ameliorates autoimmune encephalomyelitis in mice

Activation of transcription factor NF-kappaB in the central nervous system (CNS) has been linked to autoimmune demyelinating disease. This study demonstrates that NF-kappaB-dependent gene expression in non-microglial cells of the CNS provides a permissive proinflammatory milieu that is critical for CNS inflammation and tissue damage in autoimmune demyelinating disease.

Immune cells contribute to myelin degeneration and axonopathic changes in mice overexpressing proteolipid protein in oligodendrocytes

This study provides strong evidence that a primary glial damage can cause secondary immune reactions of pathological significance as it has been suggested for some forms of multiple sclerosis and other leukodystrophies.

Deficient Fas expression by CD4+ CCR5+ T cells in multiple sclerosis

The lower expression Fas, a cytochine receptor, in activated T cells might contribute to disease pathogenesis by prolonging cell survival and favouring their migration into the central nervous system.

Higher sensitivity in the detection of inflammatory brain lesions in patients with clinically isolated syndromes suggestive of multiple sclerosis using high field MRI: an intraindividual comparison of 1.5 T with 3.0 T.

This study demonstrates that high-field MRI at 3.0 T provides a significantly higher detection rate of inflammatory brain lesions especially in the infratentorial, juxtacortical and periventricular anatomic region.
