Effect of corpus callosum damage on ipsilateral motor activation in patients with multiple sclerosis: A functional and anatomical study

This study uses fMRI to show that there is damage to inhibitory pathways in the brain in MS which may account for some of the increased activation on MRI when motor tasks are performed

CRYAB promoter polymorphisms: Influence on multiple sclerosis susceptibility and clinical presentation

This study explores the role of polymorphisms in the CRYAB gene in the pathogenesis of MS. They may increase susceptibility to MS by modulating the immune response, and the authors conclude that they should be included in further biomarker studies.

Effect of intrathecal baclofen on sleep and respiratory function in patients with spasticity

This study on intra-thecal baclofen (a centrally acting muscle relaxant which is administered directly into the spinal fluid to treat spasticity) showed that patients had improved sleep, but that their ability to breath normally overnight was not affected. The authors conclude that this may indicate that the drug acts directly on the spinal nerves, and does not affect the brain.

Chronotherapy using Corticosteroids for Multiple Sclerosis Relapses

This study explores the effect of giving steroids to treat acute MS relapses at times that are tailored to the bodies natural rhythms, as the immune system alters at different times of the day and night. The authors conclude that nighttime administration of steroids may be preferable to patients.
