Anti-aquaporin 4 antibody in Japanese multiple sclerosis: the presence of optic spinal multiple sclerosis without long spinal cord lesions and anti-aquaporin 4 antibody

The authors looked at the clinical features of people with MS and similar diseases in the presence of a particular antibody (called AQP4, associated with neuromyelitis optica) in a Japanese population. They found that these antibodies are markers of extensive spinal cord involvement and frequent exacerbations.

How effective are disease-modifying drugs in delaying progression in relapsing-onset MS?

The authors make estimates of the effectiveness of disease-modifying drugs in delaying disability progression in people with MS using a modeling technique. They found that they are generally effective in this respect but more effective in relapsing-remitting than in secondary progressive MS.

Health-related quality of life in multiple sclerosis: effects of natalizumab

The authors looked at the health-related quality of life of people with MS, and its relationship with natalizumab, a recently introduced treatment for MS. They found that quality of life, as reported in the study questionnaires, was reduced in MS, correlated with disability and was improved by natalizumab.

Induction of antigen-specific tolerance in multiple sclerosis after immunization with DNA encoding myelin basic protein in a randomized, placebo-controlled phase 1/2 trial

This preliminary clinical trial studied safety and tolerability of a DNA vaccine in a small group of people with MS. It found that this treatment is safe and well tolerated, and reduces the number of auto-reactive antibodies as well as the number of inflammatory lesions visible on MRI scans.
