Cannabinoid-mediated neuroprotection, not immunosuppression, may be more relevant to multiple sclerosis

Optical coherence tomography and disease subtype in multiple sclerosis

The authors used OCT, a technique which uses light to examine the thickness of the retina at the back of the eye, to examine a large group of people with MS. They found differences in the subtypes, even if they had never had optic neuritis. OCT looks promising as a non-invasive way of measuring axonal loss.

X chromosome inactivation in females with multiple sclerosis

The reason that MS is more common in women than men is incompletely understood. The authors looked to see if it was due to differences in which X chromosome is inactivated, a process which occurs normally in all women. They found no evidence that this contributed to the development of MS, but small differences were seen in the different subtypes.
