2007 James D. Wolfensohn Award for International Person with MS winner announced!

Ann Langley Wolfensohn award winnerThe winner of the 2007 James D. Wolfensohn Award for International Person with MS is Ann Langley from Australia. As this year’s winner, Ann will attend MSIF's biennial Council, Board and Committee meetings and international Persons with MS Day to be held in Prague, Czech Republic from 8-10 October 2007. Ann will be presented with an MSIF certificate, and will speak about herself and what winning the award means to her, at the Council meeting. Please click here to read more.

Disparities in the management of multiple sclerosis-related bladder symptoms

This study on more that 9,000 patients validated a new questionnaire to assess bladder and bowel function in people with MS. They found that ethnic and socioeconomic differences are present in the management of bladder problems.

Schwann cell precursors: a favourable cell for myelin repair in the Central Nervous System

The authors studied the effect of implanting peripheral myelin-producing cells in the central nervous system, at an early stage of their development, using a rat model of MS. They found the cells to be effective in producing new myelin in MS lesions.

Central histamine H3 receptor signaling negatively regulates susceptibility to autoimmune inflammatory disease of the CNS

The authors looked at the impact of a receptor for histamine in the development of the animal model of MS. They found that a reduced presence of this receptor in the central nervous system is related to the occurrence of a more severe disease in mice.

Kinematic analysis of thalamic versus subthalamic neurostimulation in postural and intention tremor

The authors compared two different deep brain stimulation techniques to treat tremor caused by MS. They found one to be more effective than the other.

MS trial alert: clinical trial of sex hormone estriol recruiting women with MS to participate

In the first effort of its kind in MS, UCLA neurologist Dr Rhonda Voskuhl is leading a team of investigators at seven US medical centers to conduct a two-year, controlled clinical trial of a sex hormone added to standard therapy to treat MS.
