High resolution diffusion tensor imaging of axonal damage in focal inflammatory and demyelinating lesions in rat spinal cord

The authors studied a new MRI technique in animal models of MS. They found it to be more useful than traditional MRI in detecting neural damage.

Evolution of different MRI measures in patients with active relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis over 2 and 5 years. A case control study.

The authors followed up a group of people with MS with MRI scans over five years. They found that different brain tissue compartments showed different patterns of volume change over time.

CD44 variant DNA vaccination with virtual lymph node ameliorates experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis through the induction of apoptosis

The authors looked at the effects of a DNA vaccination technique, aiming to reduce the pathological response of the immune system in an animal model of MS. They found it to be effective in reducing the number of brain lesions in mice.

Protective and therapeutic role for alphaB-crystallin in autoimmune demyelination

The authors studied alphaB-crystallin, a molecule that works as a brake on the pathological responses of the immune system, and that could have a protective and therapeutic role in people with MS. They have found that this molecule was able to ameliorate EAE, the animal model of MS.

Predicting short-term disability in multiple sclerosis

The authors looked at MRI predictors of short-term disability in a group of people with MS. They found that reduced brain volume and higher lesion volume correlated with a higher disability.

A new study by US National MS Society-supported researchers suggests a small protein (alpha B-crystallin) normally produced by cells to protect against injury may itself be the target of the multiple sclerosis immune attack.

Enrolment begins for US study of MBP8298 in secondary-progressive MS

Enrolment has begun for a study testing the safety and effectiveness of the experimental drug MBP8298 (BioMS Medical Corp.) in 510 people with secondary-progressive MS. Up to 60 sites across the US will be enrolling patients by September.
