Preservation of gray matter volume in multiple sclerosis patients with the Met allele of the rs6265 (Val66Met) SNP of brain-derived neurotrophic factor.

This study in MS patients suggests that people with a specific genetic subtype are relatively protected . Those with the BDNF Met 66 allele, a single nucleotide polymorphism, appeared to have larger brain volumes and lower lesion loads.

Cannabinoid control of neuroinflammation related to multiple sclerosis.

This review discusses the receptor-mediated immuno-modulatory effects of cannabinoids, which may not be evident at clinically safe doses. However, cannabinoids may have a role in neuroprotection via their effect on the innate immune system, in addition to a role in symptom control.

Scotland: Seeking answers with new MS Registry

Scotland has the highest rate of MS in the world, with an estimated 10,500 people living with MS. Across the UK about one in every 800 people has MS, but in Scotland the figure is estimated at one in 500.

UK: Funding for MS Life 2008

Germany: 'History of MS' short film now available

The German MS Society (DMSG) has worked with MS researchers, including Professor Jürg Kesselring (Chefarzt Neurology Rehabilitation Centre Hospital Valens, Switzerland) and Professor Peter Rieckmann (Chair for MS Research, Director of the MS Program of the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health, Canada) to create ‘Multiple Sclerosis - a journey through time’.
