Research News

Summaries of all the latest research findings on MS selected by a team based at the Institute of Neurology, London.
Regional brain atrophy development is related to specific aspects of clinical dysfunction in multiple sclerosis.

The authors looked at the relationship between the localization of brain atrophy and the degree of disability in specific tests in a group of MS patients. They found that lower limbs dysfunction was related with atrophy of central brain regions, whereas upper limbs dysfunction was related with atrophy of peripheral areas.

Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging analysis of the corticospinal tract in multiple sclerosis

The authors used different recently introduced MRI techniques to study the cortico-spinal tract, which is a group of fibres responsible for mobility, in a group of people with MS. They found that these techniques are very sensitive in detecting abnormalities in this brain region.
