Subtraction MR images in a multiple sclerosis multicenter clinical trial setting

MRI in the diagnosis of pediatric multiple sclerosis

MRI diagnostic criteria have not yet been adopted for MS in children. The authors looked for differences in MRI features of MS and other demyelinating diseases and proposed some modifications to the current criteria for adults.

Role of MRI in the differentiation of ADEM from MS in children

ADEM is a disease which can present in a similar way to a first attack of MS, particularly in children. This study showed some differences in the MRI patterns between them that may be useful to distinguish them.

The intrathecal, polyspecific antiviral immune response: specific for MS or a general marker of CNS autoimmunity?

The authors studied the spinal fluid of people with MS and another autoimmune disease and compared the immune response to some viruses. They found that this response was not a general marker of autoimmunity and might be specific to MS although further work is needed.

Results of a phase IIa clinical trial of an anti-inflammatory molecule, chaperonin 10, in multiple sclerosis

This preliminary study showed that chaperonin 10, a new potential treatment for MS, was safe and did not cause serious side-effects, but further studies are required to assess its effect on symptoms.

Increase in relapse rate during assisted reproduction technique in patients with multiple sclerosis

It has been shown that hormones may play a role in disease activity in women with MS. This study showed an increase in relapse rate in women who were treated with hormones for infertility.
