2008 Global Dinner Party in Second Life
For the first time ever, a virtual Global Dinner Party will be held online, in Second Life!
The party is being organised by the MS Island team and will be held on Saturday 23 February at the podium on the MS Island VUmc. It will start at 6pm GMT and last until at least 1am, giving people from countries all over the world every possible opportunity to drop by.

Du Pré Grants deadline – 15 February 2008
Each year we offer up to ten Du Pré Grants to young MS researchers enabling them to undertake short visits to other MS research centres, either to learn more from each other or to carry out parts of joint research projects.

Unexpected multiple sclerosis: follow-up of 30 patients with magnetic resonance imaging and clinical conversion profile
This study follows 30 patients who had an MRI scan for some other reason, and the scan was consistent with MS even though they had had no previous symptoms. It suggests that it may be possible to detect patients early who are likely to develop clinical MS at a later date.

Does high-field MR imaging improve cortical lesion detection in multiple sclerosis?
This study examines whether use of a stronger magnet (4.7 T compared to 1.5T) improves the sensitivity of MRI scans for detecting lesions within the cortical grey matter. Even at the higher field strength, 80% of cortical lesions identified on histology were undetected by MRI.

Australia: watch the ‘Saboteur’ advert
The MS Society of Australia have created the ‘Saboteur’ advert simulating the issues involved in dealing with MS/. The advert shows a woman apparently ‘booby-trapping’ her home. The ‘traps’ all symbolise different aspects of dealing with MS, from the feelings of pins and needles, to the issues with balance or muscle control.

Scotland: doctors prescribe Sativex to patients
Scotland on Sunday reports that doctors in Scotland are prescribing cannabis for MS sufferers before it has been licensed on the NHS.
They are obtaining the drug Sativex directly from the manufacturer in an attempt to relieve the pain of MS sufferers.

Montenegro: regional symposium 20 December 2007
The MS Association of Montenegro hosted a regional symposium for people with MS on 20 December 2007.
Speakers included representatives from MS organisations in Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia. In addition, specialists from Montenegro spoke on the topics of rehabilitation and the psychological aspects of MS.
