Relating functional changes during hand movement to clinical parameters in patients with multiple sclerosis in a multi-centre fMRI study
This multi-centre study combined data from MS patients across Europe, and found that in MS patients far more areas of the brain were activated during a simple task. This suggests that recovery in MS may be associated with the use of alternative but less efficient areas of the brain for the same task.
authors: Wegner C, Filippi M, Korteweg T, Beckmann C, Ciccarelli O, De Stefano N, Enzinger C, Fazekas F, Agosta F, Gass A, Hirsch J, Johansen-Berg H, Kappos L, Barkhof F, Polman C, Mancini L, Manfredonia F, Marino S, Miller DH, Montalban X, Palace J, Rocca M, Ropele S, Rovira A, Smith S, Thompson A, Thornton J, Yousry T, Matthews PM.

Unexpected multiple sclerosis: follow-up of 30 patients with magnetic resonance imaging and clinical conversion profile
This study follows 30 patients who had an MRI scan for some other reason, and the scan was consistent with MS even though they had had no previous symptoms. It suggests that it may be possible to detect patients early who are likely to develop clinical MS at a later date.

Contribution of relapses to disability in multiple sclerosis
This study on relapses in MS found that half of the 182 patients did not recover completely from their relapses, and developed a half point increase on a disability scale (EDSS). The authors conclude that treatments which target relapses could reduce the accumulation of disability.
authors: Hirst C, Ingram G, Pearson O, Pickersgill T, Scolding N, Robertson N.
