Elevated ATG5 expression in autoimmune demyelination and multiple sclerosis

The role of genes in the pathogenesis of MS is complex. The authors found an association between a gene called Atg5 and MS, suggesting that it may contribute to inflammation in MS.

The multiple sclerosis severity score (MSSS) predicts disease severity over time

Assessment scales are important for clinical trials. This preliminary study showed that MSSS, a scale to assess severity of MS, may be a useful new tool.

Daclizumab in treatment of multiple sclerosis patients

This preliminary study investigated the tolerability and safety of daclizumab, a new experimental treatment proposed for use in severe MS. As with other antibody treatments like natalizumab there were some important side effects, in this case cardiotoxicity and viral meningitis. Further studies are needed to see if this medication will be useful.

Deletion of the G2A receptor fails to attenuate experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

There is controversy whether LPC, a molecule involved in inflammation, contributes to chronic diseases such as MS. The authors studied this molecule in the animal model of MS and they found no effect.
