Obstetric outcomes in women with multiple sclerosis and epilepsy
In this large national database study, the authors aimed to investigate pregnancy outcomes in women with MS as well as in women with other chronic diseases. According to their findings, women with MS seem to have rates of intrauterine growth restriction and caesarean delivery that are marginally higher than the general obstetric population. The authors did not find increases in other adverse outcomes.

Poor PASAT performance correlates with MRI contrast enhancement in multiple sclerosis
In MS, some degree of cognitive dysfunction may appear, though at present the mechanisms underlying this clinical feature are not yet fully understood. In this longitudinal study, people who experienced a change in their inflammatory status (from presence to absence of active inflammatory lesions) showed a change (improvement) in their cognitive function. Although more studies are needed, this paper may help us to understand better how cognitive dysfunction appears in people with MS.

Serum levels of complement C4 fragments correlate with disease activity in multiple sclerosis: proteomic analysis
In MS, an inflammatory-demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, reliable markers of disease activity to efficiently monitor the clinical evolution of people with this disease have not yet been found. In this study the authors found that a certain peptide (a fragment of a protein involved in immune reactions) was increased in people with MS having a relapse, while this very same peptide was decreased during remission. Therefore, the authors suggest that this peptide could be used as marker of disease activity.

In vivo quantification of myelin changes in the vertebrate nervous system
In this study the authors have developed a new imaging technique, the [(11)C]CIC-PET, using a marker which penetrates the blood brain barrier and specifically binds to myelin membranes in the brain. The authors suggest that this technique may be used to monitor, efficiently and in vivo, both demyelinating and remyelinating processes occurring in people with MS.
