Wendy Booker and Lori Schneider, from the US, are both nearing the summit of Everest.

Wendy Booker is currently at camp two at 22,000 feet. She is below the Lhotse Face, a wall of ice that she will have to climb to reach camp three. The Lhotse Face rises 3,700 feet at 40 and 50 degree pitches and this route is fixed with ropes.

Lori Schneider was hoping to climb to camp three at 23,500 feet yesterday. Her team will head back down to camp two on Thursday, then to base camp on Friday to acclimatise. She is sharing a tent with two of the ladies in her team to conserve heat.
