On Saturday 15 November 2008, a group of 80 people with MS, carers and parliamentarians gathered in the centre of Santiago to launch the Campaña Cinta Verde Limón; AUGE AHORA (Green Ribbon Campaign; AUGE NOW).
Currently, 70 percent of people with MS in Chile have no health insurance to assist them with the high costs associated with medication or receiving treatment. Campaigners are asking the Chilean government to include MS in the Auge-Ges state health plan as, once included, people with MS will have guaranteed access to a physician and be able to receive low cost treatment.
A bill in support of the inclusion has already been passed unanimously by both legislative chambers and campaigners are now appealing to the Health Secretary, Sr. Alvaro Erazo, and the Secretary of the Treasury, Sr. Andres Velasco, to make the necessary funds available for the bill to be made law.
