The visit included a day at FEM’s Hospital de Día where Margarita and Maria Elena met MS health professionals as well as people with MS who were receiving treatment. They also spent a day at the Neuroimmunology Clinic at the Hospital Universitario de la Vall d’Hebron. There they met with many of the MS team, who shared the diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation techniques used; techniques the delegates hope to implement in Cuba.
A visit to FEM’s Employment Centre enabled the delegates to see how the organisation is working to integrate people with MS into the workforce. They also met with fundraising and communications staff who shared their skills and expertise.
In addition, EM Cuba received a printer scanner, pamphlets and office supplies from FEM, all of which will help to facilitate the Society’s work in Cuba.
Margarita Ruiz said, "It is difficult to describe in a few lines, let alone a few words, the feelings of solidarity and brotherhood we received from all the people we met…. The visit will have an impact on our work and on the quality of life of people with MS (in Cuba)."
The visit was made possible through collaboration with Bayer.
