The first meeting of the Unión Latinoamericana de Asociaciones de Esclerosis Múltiple (ULASEM), (Latin-American Union of Multiple Sclerosis Associations) took place in Venezuela in early July 2006.
Representatives from MS societies in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, México, Panamá, Uruguay, Perú, Paraguay, and Costa Rica met to discuss issues related to people with MS in their countries.
Those who attended reported that the exchange was invaluable and had motivated their work. "Our dream to form a group and to become a gathering of Latin-American associations came true," said Ana Chereque from Perú. "Our common goals and our desire to do the best for our people made us think we need to work together and we were able to take this first step."
