In honour of International Women’s Day on 8 March, the Italian MS Society (AISM), alongside FISM (Fondazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla), held a nationwide fundraising event from 3-4 March.
"A Gardenia for AISM" saw almost 260,000 gardenia plants go on display in 3,000 town squares, streets and shopping centres. All the stalls were manned by volunteers and plants were given away for a donation of 13 euros.
The gardenia flower was chosen to serve as a symbol of hope and solidarity for all women affected by MS and the event aimed to unite women with MS in the fight against the disease. The funds raised will not only support scientific research into MS but the initiative ‘Women beyond MS’. This initiative focuses on how MS impacts upon the lives of women diagnosed with MS and aims to inform and support women in their diverse roles both within the family and in the workplace.
