Professor Helmut Bauer, the internationally renowned neurologist and MS researcher, passed away 16 January 2008, aged 93. 
Among his many roles Professor Bauer was Chair of the German MS Society’s (DMSG) Medical Advisory Board from 1979-85, honorary President of the German Society for Neurology, and an honorary member of the British and French societies for Neurology. Professor Bauer was Chairman and then Honorary Member of our IMAB (the predecessor of today’s IMSB). Professor Bauer was also awarded MSIF’s Charcot Award in 1981. MSIF gives the Charcot Award every two years for a lifetime achievement in outstanding research into the understanding or treatment of MS. Professor Bauer was a highly respected figure and a supporter and adviser to the German MS Society (DMSG) and he will never be forgotten for his invaluable input and involvement.
