Co-principal researchers are required to assist in the preparation of a proposal for, and to undertake the work of, a new research project which aims to investigate the information needs of people with MS in the six Arabian Gulf States of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
There have been very few studies about the information needs of people with MS and most have focused on the perspective of physicians and clinicians or the information seeking behaviour of people with MS when communicating with doctors. Moreover, most of this research has been conducted for people with MS in the US and Europe.
The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions:
• What are the information needs of people with MS in the Arabian Gulf states? • What types of information sources are available to people with MS in the Gulf region? • What information needs are considered more important than others? • How do people with MS choose to receive this information? • What are the problems associated with finding and receiving information related to MS in the Gulf region? • How could the provision of information improve in order to enhance the quality of life of people with MS in the Gulf region?
Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be used to conduct the research project.
It is expected that the results emerging from this research will contribute towards enhancing the wellbeing of people with MS in the Arabian Gulf and wider region and will be used by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation to inform the development of an Arabic MS Society Development Seminar.
