The results of "Multiple Sclerosis: reality, social needs and quality of life," a comparative study between Spain and Argentina have been released.
The study compared the situation of people with MS in Argentina and Spain between June and November 2008, using MSIF’s Principles to Promote the Quality of Life of People with Multiple Sclerosis as a guide. This international study aims to contribute to a greater and better knowledge of MS over the world. It was made possible due to collaboration between La Federación Española para la Lucha contra la Esclerosis Múltiple (Spanish MS Federation), Esclerosis Múltiple Argentina (MS Argentina), the Koine-Aequalitas Foundation for Quality and Social Development and the Spanish Royal Board of Disabilities.
More than 70 people took part in this qualitative study, including neurologists, people with MS and their family members. The results highlighted several similarities between Spain and Argentina in the MS sphere, including the lack of residential services and problems accessing transport. The study also highlighted various differences including the fact that people with MS in Argentina play a greater role in decision making regarding their treatment, whilst people with MS in Spain are better informed about different existing MS treatments.
A comprehensive report about the study will be published shortly.
