On March 1, the MS Society of Iceland recieved a 20 million ISK (230,000 EUR) gift from The Margrét Björgólfsdóttir Memorial Fund. The gift will help to build a new wing to the MS Daycare Center in Reykjavik.
The center plays an important role for Icelandic Persons with MS (PwMS) and serves over 70 people each week. The new wing will give the MS Society the opportunity to give even better service to PwMS, both medical and social.
Sigurbjörg Ármannsdóttir, chairman of the MS Society, and Þóra Hallgrímsson, Margrét Björgólfsdóttir's mother, are pictured signing the donation agreement (right).
This gift enables the MS Society of Iceland to build the new wing much sooner than otherwise planned. The wing will be 179 sqm and is expected to cost around 45 million ISK (512,000 EUR). The Margrét Björgólfsdóttir Memorial Fund was founded two years ago by Þóra Hallgrímsson and Björgólfur Guðmundsson in memory of their daughter Margrét, who died 17 years ago. Since it was founded, the fund has given out 260 million ISK (3 million EUR) to various projects.
