From 3-5 October 2008, some 400 people with MS and their families attended the Third National MS Meeting co-hosted by the Mexican MS Association (EMMEX) and the MS Association of Jalisco.

MSIF Board member, and CEO of the Federación Española para la Lucha contra la Esclerosis Múltiple, Pedro Carrascal Rueda, attended the meeting on behalf of MSIF. His presentation focused on the role that MS societies play globally. Dr Maria Adelita Reyes-Velarde, Manager of Underserved Population Programmes at the National MS Society in the USA, co-presented with Pedro and spoke of the importance of patient support groups. Other topics that were presented included paediatric MS, palliative care, misdiagnosis and improving the quality of life for people with MS.
A number of Mexican neurologists spoke during the meeting including MSIF International Medical and Scientific Board member, Dr Miguel Ángel Macías and Dr Victor Rivera, professor of Neurology and Medical Director of the Maxine Mesinger Multiple Sclerosis Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
On Saturday 4 October a dinner-dance was held, during which delegates wore traditional Mexican dress and were entertained by groups performing Mexican dances and a Mariachi group. The Fourth National Meeting will be held in Puebla in 2009.
