Elisabeth Golding found out she had the Evelyn Nicholson award in April after demonstrating outstanding commitment to her husband John Golding, who has MS. What she didn't expect was a surprise visit by Sarah Phillips to her home town, to present the award to her in person at a dinner in her honour on 30th August.
“Elisabeth has a great heart and total commitment, Sarah Phillips said in her speech at the dinner, which was attended by the Chairman and CEO of the Norwegian MS Society, Multipel Sklerose Forbundet I Norge, representatives from MS Society branches, Elisabeth’s family and friends. The event succeeded in attracting press coverage from key Norwegian media.
Elisabeth commented “this is a very emotional moment for me,” and said that she was accepting the award on behalf of the many caregivers who struggle to cope with the demands of daily life. She kindly donated her award money to a member of her local MS branch to enable her to go on a holiday abroad.
