Peer Baneke, MSIF CEO, attended “An Independent Life for People with MS,” the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Romania’s fifth national seminar on MS on 25-28 September 2008.
The event in Băile Felix attracted 200 participants and was organised by the Societatea de Scleroză Multiplă din România (the MS Society of Romania), a federation of independent local MS support groups. People affected by MS including people with MS and national MS Society representatives heard Peer Baneke’s presentation on the importance of working together globally and the challenges faced by the international MS movement.
This participative seminar focused on sharing information about medical developments, rehabilitation and the role of local MS support organisations. Issues debated by delegates included: the difficulty in obtaining a driving license once one is diagnosed with MS, having to apply annually to get recognition of disability status and the Romanian government not delivering on its promise to pay interest on bank loans to improve the accessibility in homes.
