The recipient of the 2005 Du Pré Fellowship*, Dr Marcelo Matiello from Brazil, has been awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the US National MS Society, (NMSS).
 Dr Matiello will begin his three-year Fellowship in July 2008, and will continue to be based at the Mayo Clinic with his current mentor Dr Brian Weinshenker (pictured left, with Dr Matiello).
The NMSS Postdoctoral Fellowship will allow Dr Matiello to develop his research into Genetic and immunogenic analysis of AQP4 in neuromyelitis optica.
*From 2007, The Du Pré Fellowship became known as the McDonald Fellowship.
In addition to the McDonald Fellowships, each year MSIF offers up to ten Du Pré Grants to young MS researchers enabling them to undertake short visits to other MS research centres, either to learn more from each other or to carry out parts of joint research projects.
The deadline for the first round of the MSIF 2008 Du Pré Grants is 15 February 2008.
