Peer Baneke, MSIF CEO, and Helen Regan, MSIF Advocacy and Communications Manager, attended the launch of the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform’s MS Barometer in Brussels on 13 November.
The MS Barometer charts the situation faced by people with MS across Europe in seven key areas including access to treatment and employment. Statistics collected by national MS organisations and medical advisory boards showed major differences for the 32 European countries taking part.
The EMSP released the results of this benchmarking initiative at the European Parliament to 70 MEP’s, European MS Society representatives, pharmaceutical company representatives, medical professionals and people with MS.
Dimitra Kalogianni, MS Society of Greece, and Pavel Zlobin, All Russian MS Society at the launch event.
"We needed an accurate picture of MS in Europe, including the number of people diagnosed with the condition, services and treatment availability. The barometer is one of the first steps to giving this picture, allowing us to look at information across different countries." Mairead O'Leary, EMSP Project Co-ordinator.
