At the request of MSIF's Board, interested MS society representatives met to hear details of the US National MS Society’s (NMSS) Fast Forward research initiative at MSIF’s office in London, on 16 July 2009.
The meeting was attended by representatives from MSIF, MS societies from Denmark, Italy, Netherlands and the UK, Fast Forward and Apitope.
Fast Forward is a non-profit organisation established by the US NMSS in order to accelerate the development of treatments for MS. It connects university based MS research with private sector drug development and funds small biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies (including Apitope) to develop innovative new MS therapies.
Tim Coetzee, President, Fast Forward, gave a presentation on the purpose and rationale behind the organisation in which he highlighted the need to pursue research into disease modifying therapies, diagnostics and disease management.
Peer Baneke, CEO, MSIF, said, "we had enthusiastic discussions about the potential of Fast Forward and agreed to explore possibilities for further involvement in this kind of initiative in other parts of the world."
