In early September, Zoe Burr, MSIF International Development Manager, spent a week visiting the All-Russian Public Organization of Disabled People with Multiple Sclerosis (All-Russian MS Society). The visit formed part of MSIF's Associate Membership application process.

Such visits can help MSIF to develop a more personal, face-to-face relationship with both a society's staff and volunteers and the people affected by MS it supports; to further understand a society's strengths and weaknesses; review their structural and organisational arrangements and agree a programme of development.
During her visit Zoe carried out a variety of activities, enabling her to gain a better understanding of the Society and its work. These included visits to the ‘Bereza’ Neurological Rehabilitation Centre and Social Services Centre in Samara; a meeting with the Coordinator of the Samara State University Sociology Department volunteer programme; a visit to the Moscow MS Society office and a roundtable discussion with four people with MS and their caregivers in the home of writer Alexandr Popov, a 2009 MSIF James D. Wolfensohn Award candidate.

A report from the visit will be submitted to the MSIF Board in advance of its meeting in Chicago, USA, for their consideration.
