summary: This study sought to find clinical predictors for how much patients recover from an initial demyelinating event, and for how long the period was until a second demyelinating event. In the 186 patients studied, more severe onset and polyregional presentation predicted a less complete recovery from a first event, and non-white ethnicity and age below 30 years predicted a higher risk of a second attack over the one year study period. The authors suggest that having distinct predictors for the two outcomes may indicate that recovery and time to second event are under separate biologic control.
