CASP-9: A susceptibility locus for multiple sclerosis in Italy

summary: In MS a number of pathological mechanisms to explain the damage of the brain tissue have been proposed. According to this, it has been shown that the activity of a specific protein involved in the survival of brain cells plays a major role. The authors of this study have demonstrated that certain variations in the gene of this protein may also be playing an important role in the development and the severity of MS.
