Crucial role of interleukin-7 in T helper type 17 survival and expansion in autoimmune disease

summary: It is well known that a specific type of immune cell (T helper TH17 lymphocyte) has a major role in the pathogenesis of MS. Furthermore, it is also known that the interleukin-7 receptor is amongst the genes whose abnormalities have been associated with the risk of MS. Through the study of an animal model of MS, the authors describe for the first time the relationship between these two factors. These findings may have important implications for future treatments of MS.
