summary: In MS, especially in progressive forms of the disease, some degree of cognitive dysfunction may appear with time. However, it is very difficult to predict who will develop such cognitive dysfunction. In this study on people diagnosed with primary progressive MS (PPMS), the authors found that certain MRI abnormalities, such as high lesion load and, to a lesser extent, damage in the grey matter, observed in scans performed in earlier stages of the disease, could predict future cognitive decline.
