HLA-class I markers and multiple sclerosis susceptibility in the Italian population

summary: MS is a complex disease and it is believed that genes play a crucial role. However, the role played by genes in MS pathogenesis is still unclear. In this study, the authors aimed to investigate the role of different variants of genes previously related to MS in modulating MS risk. They found that the presence of a specific variant of one of the tested genes had a protective effect for MS, especially when a variant of another gene was present. Although more studies are needed, this may help us to better understand the complex relationship between genes and MS risk.
