summary: The authors have studied a group of people with MS and a group of healthy volunteers by means of a new MRI technique called MR-elastography, to detect subtle diffuse brain abnormalities which cannot be detected by the conventional MRI but which may be involved in the clinical worsening seen in people with this disease. As significant differences were seen between the group of people with MS and the healthy controls, the authors proposed this technique, which describes the viscoelastic properties of the brain tissue, as a possible tool for diagnosis and monitoring of treatment response in people with MS.
