summary: One of the main objectives of MS imaging is to find markers to identify people who will develop further disability and those who will remain stable. The authors of this study have found an association between specific features in the MRI, which consists of an enhancement of a grey matter nucleus located deep in the brain, with having developed the secondary phase of the disease and with higher disability, though the precise pathologic mechanism is not known. Even though these results must be interpreted cautiously, as this is a cross-sectional study, they may help us to better understand the underlying processes and to develop markers of progression.
