N-acetylaspartic acid in cerebrospinal fluid of multiple sclerosis patients determined by gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry

summary: The authors looked for N-acetylaspartic acid, a neuron specific marker, in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with different subtypes of MS. They found correlations with clinical disability and with imaging measures of lesion load. They concluded that it is therefore an important marker of disease severity.
