Polymorphisms in the IL2, IL2RA and IL2RB genes in multiple sclerosis risk

summary: MS is a complex disease of unknown cause, where both environment and genes seem crucial for its development. The authors studied to what extent the presence of certain genetic variants, i.e. variants in three genes containing information of proteins specifically involved in immune reactions, had an influence on the risk of MS. They found significant correlations between such genetic variants and the MS risk, supporting the major role that genes related to immune processes play in the pathogenesis of MS.
