summary: In adult-onset multiple sclerosis, major depression, fatigue and psychological distress are common, however there is little information in children with MS. The authors studied 56 children with MS with self-assessment scales of fatigue or depression and specific neuropsychological interviews. They found significant fatigue in 11 children and 12 children received a formal psychiatric diagnosis. Moreover, having MS affected school activities in 28% of cases, daily living activities in 41% and social relationships in 28%. This study confirmed the critical role of psychosocial difficulties in children and adolescents with MS.
