summary: The authors employed the Multiple Sclerosis Severity Scale, a scale to measure disability in MS based on combining the level of disability with the disease duration, to compare the disease course of African Americans and White Americans in a large population of people with MS in the USA. They found that African Americans tended to progress more rapidly towards a greater level of disability, and suggested that Multiple Sclerosis Severity Scale is a useful tool to compare rates of progression between groups of patients with MS.
