What is an MS Centre? (2009)
Meeting the challenges of MS on a daily basis is a task that no one should have to face alone. People with MS need accessible, comprehensive care and services exist to meet their needs.
While some people have access to MS centres, with care teams made up of health professionals from a variety of disciplines, in many parts of the world such centres are non-existent.
This new guide from MSIF looks at the services and support an MS centre can provide, how MS centres are funded, relationships with MS societies and other topics. It should serve as the basis for discussion between countries where healthcare professionals and MS societies together are dedicated to improving the quality of the lives of people with MS.
Designed as a tool to inform and support the MSIF Twinning Programme, the booklet offers practical advice to national MS societies considering participating in a twinning partnership.
The How to informs societies how they can benefit from twinning, the types of activities that can be undertaken and what makes a successful partnership.
This booklet has been designed to help people working and volunteering for national MS societies to develop positive and constructive relationships with the media, on the local, regional and national level. Staff and volunteers from national MS societies in different countries will relate to the booklet in different ways, depending on their experience of working with the media and their unique cultural setting.
How to Develop a National MS Society was published in September 2003. It identifies five phased stages to the development of an effective national MS society. Experience has taught us that a focused national MS society is better placed than independent local self-help groups or associations to develop effective nationwide projects and programmes that provide universal and broad support and services to all people affected by MS in any country.
MSIF published How to Influence Public Policy in March 2001. This concise guide offers practical advice to MS societies preparing advocacy campaigns to combat the consequences of MS.
Seven basic steps outline how to execute a successful campaign and case studies demonstrate how the steps can be adapted to fit different countries and cultures.
How to Develop a Mutual Support Group was published in May 2001. Many people affected by MS find mutual support groups provide a helpful connection with others experiencing similar things. They offer emotional support, companionship and information. The book shows how to encourage the formation of mutual support groups and how to develop and manage them.
