MS the Guide:

  Severe Disability
[2008 updates are highlighted in red]

There have been few, if any, studies evaluating input in those with severe disability. Their needs include:
• Access to information and expertise
• Good communication and coordinated care
• Adequate community care services
• Flexible provision of respite care
• Appropriate long-term care facilities including palliative care
There has been recent interest in the evaluation of palliative care, which has a major role to play at this stage of the condition. There is an urgent need for more evaluation and development of services for people with severe disability.
