39 delegates from around the world attended our Board and Committee meetings in April 2013 in London, UK.
Highlights included updates on our work in the Arabic region, the progressive MS project and an update on the International Pediatric MS Study Group's work. During a meeting of CEOs from MS societies around the world, the group heard about learnings the Canadian MS Society had gained from the CCSVI debate with regard to communications and response.
Debra Cerasa, CEO of MS Australia said "When you find yourself in a meeting for work and the room is filled with energy and commitment that has a shared mission, it makes it feel less like work. It was a privilege to attend my first MSIF meeting to represent MS Australia.”
Other highlights included presentations by:
- Patricia Monin, the CEO from the Swiss MS Society, who spoke about their successes and challenges and what other MS organisations might learn from their experiences
- Shift.MS about their online community for young people with MS
- Maggie Alexander, CEO for the European MS Platform, discussing the work they are doing to improve the quality of life of people with MS throughout Europe.
MSIF Chairman Weyman T. Johnson spoke about some key decisions from the meeting: "The spring 2013 meeting of the MSIF Board surged with excitement over progress in the global MS movement’s initiative to better understand progressive MS. Moreover, the Board heard promising reports about capacity building throughout the globe, particularly in Arabic-speaking countries. Thus, two key parts of our strategy advanced."
